Project Spotlight: The Makhaza Road & Community Access Upgrade
The community of Makhaza in the Eastern Cape faced significant challenges with its local infrastructure. Poorly maintained roads hindered access to essential services, impacted local commerce, and posed daily safety risks for residents. Recognizing this critical need, Kabo Global Corporation partnered with the local municipality to initiate the Makhaza Road & Community Access Upgrade project.
Our goal was multifaceted: to rehabilitate 5 kilometers of critical access roads, improving connectivity and safety, while simultaneously empowering the local workforce. We meticulously planned the project to ensure minimal disruption to daily life while maximizing its long-term impact.
Building Roads, Building Skills
What truly sets this project apart is how we embedded community empowerment into every phase:
- Local Employment: We directly employed over 30 residents from Makhaza, providing them with stable jobs during the construction period.
- Skill Transfer: Beyond employment, we implemented on-site training programs, teaching valuable construction skills, machinery operation, and project safety protocols. This ensured that new skills were acquired, enhancing long-term employability.
- Local Procurement: Where possible, we sourced construction materials and essential services from local businesses, injecting capital directly into the community’s economy.
The impact was immediate. Families benefited from new income streams, individuals gained marketable skills, and local businesses thrived through our partnerships.

Today, the residents of Makhaza enjoy smoother, safer roads, drastically reducing travel times and enhancing access to schools, clinics, and markets. The new infrastructure supports growing local enterprises and has inspired a renewed sense of community pride and optimism.
